February 11, 2010 – Less than two years after launching as New York’s only online furniture thrift, Brooklyn Vintage is expanding its scope, helping to turn a corner of Bushwick into a spot for retro style and serious craftsmanship.
Since 2008
Brooklyn Vintage has built a following among New Yorkers looking for unique alternatives to flat-packed,
landfill-bound furnishings at recession-era prices. Now, BV founder / old-furniture rescuer Paul Johnson is kicking
it up a notch by teaming up with master craftsman / treasure hunter Kevin Taylor. Kevin has made an art of finding
jewels of furniture design, including mid-century classics, and restoring them to their original form—or adding an
unexpected element and making them brand new. With Brooklyn Vintage, he’ll curate the new Designer Collection,
which joins the Flea Market collection in the new storefront and in the online store. Both collections are loaded
with really cool design details, total style, amazing craftsmanship and great functionality.
Each piece is way too good to let die.
Located in The Loom Building
Bushwick’s take on Williamsburg’s Mini-Mall, with a café / restaurant
and community courtyard—the Brooklyn Vintage space hosts a workshop where Kevin and his young apprentices work around
the clock. Way more than a store, Brooklyn Vintage also buys and trades vintage furniture, fixtures and decorative objects;
offers restoration and reupholstering services; and helps keep the world free of foam, foil and MDF.
